Its not about change, its about refocus

I completed my Bachelor’s in Pastoral Education last fall (2022). During my final oral exam, my professors asked me a question that stayed with me: “What would you take from your thesis to make changes in a church or ministry?” My answer was simple: it’s not about change—it’s about refocusing on the Word of God.

You might wonder what I mean by “refocusing on the Bible.” We live in a time of unprecedented freedom and openness. People have more rights and opportunities to express themselves than ever before, and society often encourages a utopian idea where everything is liberalized and tolerated. While opinions and beliefs may differ, God’s Word remains constant. Unlike our ever-changing experiences, emotions, and feelings, His truth is complete and unchanging.

This understanding inspired the idea of a neutral space—a pub, a coffee shop, or any open venue—where people from all backgrounds, passions, and beliefs can gather with humility, curiosity, and openness to explore God’s truth together. Questions like these can guide our reflections:

What does love mean to you?

How do people in your community treat their neighbors, strangers, and themselves—and how do you treat others and yourself?

What do you see as the purpose of life?

Spaces like this allow us to ask these questions honestly, challenge one another, and refocus on what truly matters. Instead of avoiding those who think differently, we can sit together, share openly, and experience God’s love and goodwill firsthand.

The goal is simple: to create an environment where real conversation, reflection, and connection happen—a place where everyone is welcome to explore, grow, and deepen their understanding of truth and purpose.
